I want to start with a disclaimer that I am in no way a blogger or writer. There is a solid reason behind the fact that 99% of my blogs are mostly photographs. I did a fun little poll on IG though & it seems that you all were super interested in me doing some blog posts that have more content! I say "fun little poll" because I think the poll option that IG added to stories was the most genius thing they have ever done...who doesn't love to answer the questions?! It's like a modern day magazine quiz you got in the mail when you were in middle school. Anyways, do you guys see why I don't write a lot? I rabbit whole very quickly.
I have been a bride myself and am constantly surrounded by brides. Whether I am meeting with potential clients, texting current brides or helping my friends plan their weddings. The biggest struggle (from what I have seen) is picking your wedding photographer. Why? It's the only thing you will have left after the big day. Your flowers will die, the food will be eaten but the pictures last a lifetime. They matter.
I wanted to share a few different tips to help you choose! Ask yourself these questions and I promise it will help.
1. What is your budget for photography?
This is the most obvious first question, but the real question behind this is "how important is photography to you?" Do you want to splurge on your dream photographer or is your dream venue more important? Once you've decided this and what you're willing to spend, you can start narrowing down photographers!
2. What style of photography do you connect with?
Most people would classify a photographer's work as either "bright & airy" or "dark & moody." I don't necessarily love these terms, because I don't think everyone's work fits into one of two categories. That's a different topic for another day, though! There are so many different styles of photography, from traditional to lifestyle to documentary. Most photographers are a mixture!
Here's the point-who's work do you connect with and why? Is it the kind of light they shoot in? Can you imagine yourself in their images? This is huge. If you can't see yourself in their work, then they're not your photographer. Do you like their skin tones? Do you like their poses/interactions in their images? Do you think you will still like their photos in 10+ years?
There are SO many different styles of wedding photography & it's so important for you to decide which one resonates with you as a couple the most. Think further past just editing style. Think about the way their images make you feel. How do you envision your photos? JUST THINK A LOT ABOUT IT FRIENDS. Haha.
3. Do you connect with the person behind the photographs?
You've found a few photographer's work that you love, YAY! Email them! Get coffee with them! Connect in real life with the real person. I can't preach this enough, but it is crucial (in my opinion) that you adore your wedding photographer. They are the person you will be spending more time with on your wedding day than pretty much anyone else. Ask anyone who has met with me, I tell them I will give them 5 other photographer's names if they leave the meeting and decide they don't like me. I am being 100% serious too. It is so important to me that you love your photographer!
4. What are your top 3 priorities when it comes to your photographer?
Okay, you have met with 3 different photographers and you loved them all. What do you do now? I honestly should have put this question at the top, but whatever. I warned you guys that I'm not very good at blogging.
When I was planning my own wedding, my top 3 were I wanted them to shoot primarily film, wanted to be able to trust them in any lighting situation (as well as ability to handle flash/reception lighting very well) and I wanted to be comfortable with them.
Yours may be you want someone with 3+ years experience, shoots digital and is very traditional.
OR shoots film, very artistic and offers an album in their package.
The possibilities are endless and completely up to you two as a couple.
I hope this was helpful in some form or fashion! Leave a comment to let me know if you guys enjoyed it.
These two are just adorable. I'm so happy they asked me to take their engagement pictures for them! Botanical Gardens is such an elegant place to me, and these two made it even more beautiful. Best of wishes to you!

Their love for one another and everyone around them is so evident. You can see it in their smiles at one another other and each hug I saw them embrace this day. Truly a beautiful day to celebrate an even more beautiful couple. Praying for many wonderful adventures ahead for you two! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for allowing me to capture this day.
